Description
Laphroaig is an icon of the Scotch whisky industry. Located in the very south of the peat island of Islay, the distillery, founded in 1815, bottles particularly peaty single malts. There are several anecdotal episodes to tell about its eventful history. For example, Laphroaig whisky was allowed to be legally imported into the USA in the 1920s despite Prohibition, as it was considered "medicinal alcohol" due to its strong medicinal-phenolic peat content. For peat freaks, the numerous Laphroaig bottlings are part of the basic equipment and represent the medicinal side of the island's drinking pleasure. Laphroaig 15 years disappeared from the distillery's standard range a few years ago and was re-released in a limited edition to celebrate its 200th anniversary
